2010-2011

Please note that it is strongly recommended that students provide a live, rather than recorded, audition.  All applicants will be required to complete a musicianship examination and a piano placement examination.

Vocal

Students are required to present two contrasting songs.  Memorization is strongly recommended, but not required.  A foreign language is NOT necessary.  If the vocalist is not proficient at singing in a foreign language, please present two selections in English.  Sight reading will be included in the audition process.  A staff accompanist will be available for students who require piano accompaniment.  Pre-recorded accompaniments are not allowed.

Instrumental

The student should present two classical solo selections of contrasting styles.  Memorization is not required, but is recommended.  The Department of Music will not be responsible for supplying and accompanist for instrumental auditions.  Pre-recorded accompaniments are not allowed.  Sight reading will be included in the audition process. 

Keyboard

Two classical solo selections of contrasting styles.  Memorization is strongly recommended, but not required.  Sight reading will be included in the audition process.

Theory/Composition

Please present examples of original composition.  Both manuscript and computer generated scores are acceptable.  Performance of the work recorded on a CD is helpful, but not required.  Students should also prepare to audition with a prepared piece for voice, piano, or instrument.  Sight reading on the selected instrument will be included in the audition process.

 

PLEASE BRING THE FOLLOWING ITEMS TO THE AUDITION:

A list of all high school and church music activities, high school honors, citation of musical achievements is to be brought with the student and turned in on the audition date.

Two letters of recommendation should be sent to the attention of Don Reddick, Chair, Department of Music, ONU Box 6044, One University Avenue, Bourbonnais, IL 60914.  The letters should be sent by qualified musicians such as a high school band/choir/orchestra director, private teacher, or others who are familiar with your abilities.

 

AUDITION RESULTS
