Students must be currently studying privately or those who have complete a Senior Recital. Student must complete the audition form and turn it in to the Music Office by the designated date. The form must be signed by the student's private instructor.

Excellence is the objective in selecting Messiah soloist. In some cases, the participants in a particular voice classification have been separated by only subtle nuances in performance. When such close auditions occur, extra consideration will be given to the participant who has not previously been selected as a soloist. There is still the possibility for a student to be selected as a soloist more than once. This policy seeks to stimulate competition as an effective learning tool and extend the opportunities of this honored public performance to more students. But, to emphasize, a superlative performance will always be honored with selection. (Taken from the Student Handbook).

A single soloist or multiple soloists may be selected for each voice part. This will be determined by a ballot vote by each member of the music faculty.

1. Auditions are considered a student performance. The performance is open to the public

2. Audition Order will proceed in the order of voice classification (all sopranos, all altos, etc.).

3. Recital Credit will be given. In the event that the auditions exceed 1 hour and 20 minutes, two recital credits will be given.

4. Recital Attire is expected from the participants. A comment concerning appropriate attire is included on the audition form.

The department chair will prepare a ballot to be used in the selection process. Arias and recitatives will be listed individually with a line for faculty to write in a name. Names will be included to assist the faculty. Names will be taken from the forms turned in prior to the audition.

Notification of selected soloists will be announced following the auditions and will be posted on bulletin boards throughout Larsen Fine Arts Center.
